The SMART SCALE Round 5 submission deadline was on August 1, 2022 and there were 412 applications submitted statewide for a total request of $333 million. There were 41 submissions in the VDOT Staunton District for Round 5, compared to 42 applications submitted in Round 4 in 2020. Of those 42 applications, six applications were in the SAWMPO region. Augusta County submitted 1 application, the SAWMPO submitted two applications on behalf of the County, and the City of Waynesboro submitted three applications. The District award is expected to be in the range of $50-60 million. 

VDOT Staunton District staff is coordinating with localities on validating each application ahead of the project scoring phase, which will be conducted by VDOT Central Office in fall 2022. The scores will be released, along with the draft recommended funding scenario, in January 2023.
