Long Range Planning
The primary objectives of the Long Range Planning program are updating and maintaining the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and other regional planning documents, such as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.
The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP)
The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is a comprehensive examination of the future transportation needs within the SAWMPO over a 25-year period. The LRTP presents recommendations for enhanced transportation efficiency and functionality, including the construction of new facilities, improved connectivity to multiple travel modes, and the enhancement of existing highway, transit, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The LRTP also identifies potentially available federal, state, and local funding levels and presents recommendations for the future programming and implementation phasing of major projects.
2050 LRTP Update
The LRTP is updated every five years through a multi-year, multi-phase process that includes many opportunities for public input. Diverse and regionally representative public input is critical for developing effective transportation plans. Phase One of the 2050 LRTP update opened for public input in August 2024. It will focus on the community vision for the future of transportation in the SAWMPO region.

The SAWMPO held a webinar on August 28 at 12 p.m. Following a short presentation, SAWMPO staff was available to answer questions and walk community members through the survey platform. A recording of the webinar presentation and slides are available below:

2050 LRTP Visioning Phase Survey
What transportation priorities does the SAW region have over the next 25 years? Safer roads? More sidewalks and shared-use paths? More frequent bus services?
We invited residents to share their current transportation needs and their vision for the future through our Visioning Survey below, which closed September 30th. We are now analyzing the results, as this feedback will be integral for shaping the LRTP, as priorities identified here will be used to determine which transportation projects are considered and to develop the evaluation criteria for the projects. Stay tuned to see the results of the survey.

Constrained Long Range Plan (CLRP)
The CLRP list identifies potential transportation projects that the region may be able to finance over the 25-year planning period and provides a realistic set of expectations for the general public.
