Interregional Coordination
The SAWMPO planning area is within 10 miles of two neighboring MPOs–the Harrisonburg Rockingham MPO (HRMPO) to the north, and the Charlottesville Albemarle MPO (CA-MPO) to the east–and it shares common transportation planning challenges and goals with both regions. The SAWMPO regularly coordinates with its neighboring MPOs, recognizing that residents and businesses in the SAWMPO travel across our boundaries on a daily basis. Joint studies and regular meetings with neighboring MPOs are part of our approach to business.
The SAWMPO coordinates with our neighboring MPOs through:
- A Joint Planning Memorandum of Understanding with the CA-MPO, and annual joint Policy Board Meetings
- Cross-jurisdictional Studies
