On June 20th, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) announced funding awards for the FY 2018-2020 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) application cycle. The CTB selected four projects in the SAWMPO region to receive allocations totaling $1,119,462. These projects are:
Augusta County – Construct new pedestrian accommodations and crosswalks on Laurel Hill Road (VA 612) and extend existing sidewalks on the eastern side of US 11 from Dick Huff Lane south to the Staunton City limits.
City of Staunton – Streetscape improvements on Central Avenue from West Fredrick Street to Pump Street. Improvements include installing new brick sidewalks, enhanced historical lighting, crosswalks and landscape enhancements.
City of Waynesboro – South River Greenway. Construct a new 1-mile shared use path along the South River to connect the South River Greenway to adjacent neighborhoods and North Park, the location of the City’s only illuminated baseball field.
City of Waynesboro – Final phase of the Blue Ridge Tunnel restoration. Project includes construction of the western trail from the Crozet Tunnel western portal to the west trail-head and surfacing the eastern segment of the access trail.
The Transportation Alternatives Program provides funding for programs and projects that improve access to public transportation, mobility, safety, infrastructure and environmental impact of alternative modes of transportation.To view the complete list of FY 2018 – 2020 TAP awards click here.
